I did not expect to come across a solution to my yarn woes while I was seeking out mason jars in a local Dollar Store, but solutions seem to sometimes appear in unexpected places! I found a rainbow-coloured acrylic yarn that was a lighter weight that the previous yarn that I had been trying to knit with, and it only cost me $1.50!
This new yarn worked very well for my beginner-knitter stitches, as the colours made it easy to see each and every stitch, and the weight of the yarn was much easier to maneuver.
